I'm finally starting to get a handle on the acls and embossed soda bottles in general, but it's the no deposit / no return / throw aways that are boggling me now. Just to be on the safe side I have decided to start collecting every one I can find, and may even go back to some of my old haunts and start gathering up all of the one's I tossed over my shoulder while looking for what I thought were the real keepers. I bet I could go out in a single day and come home with fifty or more of them. And here in southern California it's finally starting to cool down a bit, which means the rattlesnakes will be denning up soon and should all be in hibernation by Thanksgiving ... I hope. My typical hunting season starts around Thanksgiving and last to about Easter (Mid April) when those dam* rattlesnakes start coming out again.
Anyway ... I just thought I would open up another nd/nr discussion and see where it takes us. Perhaps there are others out there like myself who are the new kid on the block when it comes to this category of collectible bottles. I only know of a couple of websites on the subject, and in my opinion neither one of them are all that good. So if someone knows of a good site, I guess that would be a good place to start. In the meantime all I can think to do is ask questions. Surely some nd/nr's are more sought after than others, but which ones are they? Is it like acls and rarity is the key factor? If so, which are the rare ones? Is it the first ones that came out in the 1960s, or is there a time frame where more collectible ones appeared? Say, in the 1970s or 80s?
As you can see I have a lot of questions this time and very few answers. But I suppose that's how a guy learns, from the experiences and opinions of others. And for those among us who are familiar with my likes and dislikes, you may be wonderng what all of this np/nr stuff has to do with my preference for cowboy and Indian acls? The answer is ... nothing! It's just that I know where there are a ton of old nd/nr bottles and hoping to learn more about them before I come home with a truck load of them. Plus, in this way I will never get skunked again like I do sometimes when I'm looking for nothing but acls.
Here's one of the few nd/nr bottles I currently have. It's has Pepsi on one side of the shoulder in block lettering, and blocked Pepsi Cola on the other side. I believe it was made by Ball Glass in 1990. At least it has a 90 on the base, and is the only two-digit number there is. But it seems a little late for a swirl style 7 oz bottle. Is it a keeper or should I toss it over my shoulder and forget about it?
If this thread takes off I will post a few others I have and see what everyone thinks. Plus I would love to see what the rest of you have and consider rare and valuable. But for the sake of simplicity, how'z about we stay away from foam labeled bottles for the time being. I don't know, maybe foam is where the main interest and money is, but I'm having enough of a problem with the embossed ones and don't want to complicate this thread any more than necessary.
Please don't forget about sharing a good np/nr website if you know of one. And what about books?
As always ... Thank you - Thank you - Thank you []
