Was wondering if anyone can tell me about this large bottle I picked up this morning. It's about 11 inches high, and 5 inches wide. It has a weird attached top. I've never seen it done this way. It's also pontiled, and has a couple of green striations running through the glass. It's also pretty crude, as not all sides are straight. Any ideas?

By the way.. it only cost $7, which I thought was a pretty good deal.

Eathanxxx that is a nice late 1700s German or colonial American/German Palatine gaffer made Utility bottle. That is a nice find worth 150 to 200.00
I like the color and could easily place it in the Mid Atlantic region with the following places as a possibilty of manufacture.Wistar The United Glass Company Alloway New Jersey 1739 to 1781,Hillstown Glassworks Bucks County Pennsylvania 1755 to 1765,Stanger Glass works Glassboro New Jersey 1774 to 1780,Stiegel Manheim Pennsylvania1765 to 1771, Amelung The New Bremen Glass manufactory Frederick Maryland 1783 to 1793 or in Northern Germany at the Peterstahl glassworks 1720 to 1798 and these works changed names a few times.

Steve, you are a lot more knowledgeable than I am, but I was assuming it was another of those repro half post bottles we've been seeing recently at shows and on the Bay. I can't seem to tell the difference. What would you say are the more distinctive ways a collector can differentiate between the repros and the originals? There was a post about the repro bottles not too long ago, if I'm not mistaken. Thanks for your help.

Killer find for $7 for sure, and I agree that Steve is extraordinarily knowledgeable on the subject, but repro was my first impression too. It looks identical to the repro ones seen lately, just not as flashy a color. The thing that got me on a piece that size, which most likely would have been heavily used, is the lack of heavy base wear. It's a shame that it's even questionable, because it is an attractive bottle.

I'm with Paul wondering about the age. I jumped in about the earlier discussion, about 2 months ago, but I'm not so sure about this one. Without holding it I don't know. My guess is repro.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing about having no base wear at all. It still seems really old to me though. There are numerous potstones still in the glass, and some content stain at the bottom. Can this all be faked? I'll post more pics if it would help anyone. Thanks
