I got this this weekend. It's covered in whittle and "warts". I'm pretty sure it was blown in a wooden mold. It's an odd color and craze texture, like a giant toad. What do you think a fair value is?

RE: Apple Green Demi....Wood Mold

I haven't cleaned it yet, but here's a closer pic of the "warts". Is this a commen thing with wooden molds?

Hi The first picture indicates some cold mold ripple in the lower portion which would hint that it was blown in a cast iron mold. However the marks seem to be vertical which can happen but it isn't a positive indicator. The warts are a different mater, They are not all that typical to a wooden mold. However the shoulder seam looks like it could have been a wooden mold. I tend to use two or three mark characteristics to help me tell.
In this case the mold could have been made from a different type of wood.. They mostly used fruit wood because of it's close type of grain. Some were done with the wood from the Iron Wood tree. This one is different from any of mine.
I will need to see more of the mold seam shots, the bottom picture, and pictures of the bottle heal sideways to detect the loss of mold wood due to char removal.
Another possibility is that it could have been blown in a ceramic mold; I say this because of the warted surface and the internal texture of the little vertical oval thickness changes in the glass surface blown to the mold wall.
It is a neat example and If you decide to sell it we will have to kick the idea around. Please email me some more pictures. RED Matthews
