These are not apothecary bottles. They are Sheaffer's ink bottles. The glass pocket is for filling the pen with ink.

Nice. I like these little jars. I have dug exactly two inks, that one and a watermans. Hope to find a colorful earlier one someday like I’ve seen on the threads here.
