Still dont have a red book. Found an aqua Ball (at shoulder), with Mason Patent Nov 30th 1858 near the middle. Ground lip, half gallon. Can any of you good folks give me any info? Common? Sorry no picture yet. Thank you.

Sorry, I made a mistake on the description. That's what I get for trying to do it from memory. The jar reads Ball (underlined) at the top, MASON"S (arc) PATENT 1858. Aqua, ground lip, half gallon.

Hi J.D.

Without a pic, it is difficult to positively ID, but it sounds like one of the mid 1890's versions, RB9 #253 or #253-1. Redbook value on these seems a little high for the half gallons ($25-$30) based upon what I usually see them sell for. Normally you see these in the $10-$15 range. Nice early Ball jar; the first Ball jars to use a script or cursive Ball. Prior to these, Ball was seen in all block lettering.
