This is a follow to my post from July 20 / 14 , I tried to reply but the post is locked. These big insulators were no doubt used by Italian inventor Marconi , who invented wireless messaging. He had huge transmission towers 200 feet high built in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. There is a mini museum on the original site with tiny replica's and explanations of his work in Glace Bay , Nova Scotia. I am enclosing a few pictures.
