Hello,
Sorry, new here and very inexpert, but would appreciate some help. Found this nice little bottle in France while on a WW1 battlefield tour. It was well embedded in an old shell hole near what was a concrete German bunker.

It's external measurements are 8.5ins tall, 2.75ins wide and 1.5ins deep.
It is flat on one side (the back?) with small angled corners, with three almost equal faces at the other side (front?), the outer faces angling backwards to the corners.

It has mould lines running down each side and around the base and has a three point closure at the top.

Marks on the base are 'VB' inside an oval with an 'S' and an '8' at opposing sides.

I believe it to be somewhere between 1890 and 1930, but any more ideas would be greatly appreciated.

With many thanks,
Tim

Welcome,
I'm not certain but the lug screw cap I think didn't come about 'til around the 20's anyway.
It looks like a hair product to me but I don't know for sure.
Sorry I can't be more specific.

If that came out of a WW1 trench context, that's pretty cool.. maybe it was something that smelled nice, or disinfected, or gave up a buzz.. [8|]

They have so many battle sites that most are not protected. My son and husband visited a WWI site that still has underground bunkers you can get into...still has some of the old equipment like pumps. It is "watched over" by some volunteers that go up and check the tunnels and bunkers for problems..like unexploded ordinance, collapses, etc.
Lots of spent rifle shells, etc still laying around. There is so much unexploded ordinance in the area that the fire fighters will let forest fires burn. The guy that took them up there (one of the volunteers) said you can hear it exploding when there is a fire.
There are some parts of France where the farmers plow up so much in spent shells or live shells that they just pile it by the side of the field. There is an explosives person that is hired to visit the fields, pick up the shells and dispose of them. Crazy.
Entry to one of the bunkers..
