Hey all, new to the site. Love reading all the posts. My son recently found this bottle in a creek and I’ve been trying to find out what it was. From what reasearch I’ve done, (correct me if I’m wrong on any of this), it has the pre 1954 Owens-Illinois mark on the base. The 7 to the left indicates it was made at the Alton, IL plant (2929-83), and the number to the right looks to be a 9. From what I’ve read that indicates made in 1939, since they went to the 2-digit year in the 40’s. There are no other markings on it. The seam does go all the way to the top, and it looks to have a threaded mouth.

What I cannot find are any other examples of this shape. I’ve searched all kinds of categories and looked at 100s of pictures, but nothing close to this. It’s 6 1/4 inches tall. Any idea what this was, or if I’m off on what I’ve said above?

I dug one or two. Yup Yup to the olive oil voters. --Seems like the olive oil companies, back in the day, spent more r + d $ on their bottle designs than other foods while trying to outdo each other. Maybe whiskies to a lesser extent, too. "Gotta luv it. What a country!";)
