My son dug a neat lightning type stopper bottle in a trash pit in Central Florida. I collect Florida bottles but this nice bottle is from Toronto Canada. It's an aqua bottle embossed ROBT DAVIES/LAGER BEER/DOMINION BREWERY/TORONTO. The embossing is embossed vertically on the bottle using a slug plate that attempts to give the look of an engraved mold. The bottle is 9 1/4" tall and 2 3'4" wide at the base. Can someone tell me anything about this bottle? Rare? value? Thanks

nice bottle, they are from 1880 to 1895 and I think they are worth between 50 and 100$ depending on the day but that does not give a great idea of how hard they are to dig, they are kind of rare.

That sounds like a good dig, I'd love to see pictures of some other things that came out of that pit.

They are a "tougher" Toronto bottle, but with anything Toronto, there have been so many bottles found with the construction near the waterfront, even more so in the last 20 years, eveything has been hammered as far as what it was worth.

Either way, a neat old bottle, and crazy that it was found in Central Florida!

Thanks for the information. With all the digging in Toronto, maybe the folks that came to Florida with Toronto bottles brought back Florida bottles to Toronto? A while ago a nice Florida bottle turned up in an Ohio privy. And a rare Florida strap sided flask was found in Oregon! So you never know.

The was also another broken Toronto beer bottle in the hole embossed Cosgrave & Son. The top was missing but it looked like a lightning stoppered bottle. I'll see if he has some pictures.

Yo JB,

That is a Beauty! No matter how dislocated it may be, I'd be very pleased to unearth that guy. Lemme see that again.

Yep, definitely. Is that a rectangular slug? Do they often come out with the bail in place?

Congratz!
