A friend came across this Coca-Cola 10 ounce bottle returnable bottle with a screw cap. We noticed it was date coded 69 (1969) and the screw cap returnable Coke bottle did not come out officially until 1970.

The bottom is a typical 10 ounce bottle from that time period:

The bottle itself had no ACL applied to it. He was told it was an example bottle for the Bottler to check out and did not want it making its way out of the plant by accident, so they put no ACL on it. Someone else said it may be a prototype.

The screw top has a circle cut away so the bottler could see how the bottle was sealed with a plastic liner. No markings on the cap whatsoever. Neat bottle. Looks similar to the Coca-Cola 6 1/2 ounce bottle that was posted here a month or two ago with the screw top finish.

The last coke prototype went for 280.000 beans crazy money for an ugly bottle.

Hey Doug, I have one of these bottles too! Mine is adorned with Alcoa advertising, so I've always assumed it was a marketing promo piece for the new aluminum cap. Mine is sealed too and has an "Alcoa" writing pen inside! It is also '69.

Hey Jerry
Thanks for posting your bottle. Pretty cool with the pen in it. I think mine was a salesman sample also.
