First of all I want to thank you for giving me the idea to start my thread this morning on the subject of price guides, etc. Earlier I was even going to recommend the same book as the one already mentioned, but decided against it at the last moment. The reason being is because the last I heard there were problems about ordering this book. I too believe it's the best of the best, but I would be cautious when it comes to ordering one as some members in the past have stated they paid for theirs up front but have not received them yet after waiting "months." Additionally, I know someone personally who just sent them a e-mail to inquire about it, and he never so much as got a reply from them.
So if anyone has an update on the status of ordering, especially regarding the proposed Fourth Edition, please let the rest of us hear about it. I'm not trying to knock the book or it's publishers, I'm just saying be cautious and possibly get some kind of confirmation first.
Being as this is intended to promote sales of the acl book shown above, hopefully no one will object to my posting a sample page of the format. As you can see the focus is on the labels themselves, with the accompanying text supplying additional information. Personally I think it is very well done and a must have for all acl collectors. The book contains appx 1200 similar photos listed alphabetically.
but I would be cautious when it comes to ordering one as some members in the past have stated they paid for theirs up front but have not received them yet after waiting "months."
To clarify, the people that sent money in sent it for the FOURTH edition that has yet to be completed. I'm not sure about anyone sending money for the 3rd edition and not receiving a copy. The safest bet is to buy a used one now, they come up occasionally on ebay.
I can attest to one example of someone sending money for the third edition and not receiving it. My friend Frank did just that, sent a money order, waited for months and never received anything. I think he finally got it resolved; however, never got his book.
Frank also contacted them by email, and received no reply.
I didn't have any problems with getting my copy; however, that was well over a year prior to his trying to get his own. I'm sure that there is just some issue that is causing them problems.
If you searched e-bay you may already have seen this listing. If not, check it out. There are numerous copies available and run in the $30.00 price range. I may even purchase one myself. It says the book is several hundred pages long, and about 3/4 of an inch thick. But it covers all aspects of soda pop, and not just bottles. It may be a good one to have. At least as a starter. Perhaps someone has one and can tell us more about it. Also, I have discovered that by entering the exact words Soda Guide in the e-bay search box (all catagories) it will pull up the most listings.
There is a 3rd edition of Petretti's book from 2003 but the cheapest one I see for sale is $74.
