Mark I contacted a Fan Taz collector today and hoping to hear from him soon. Maybe he's got a bottle or label. The closest thing I've found to a bottle/label is this ... I stumbled across this tid-bit of info today but not sure if and/or how it might tie in. Its from a 1913 patent gazette and list L. C. Arny of New Orleans, Louisiana as having applied for a trademark symbol shaped like a bird. The text reads as follows ... Ser No 67,317 CLASS 45 BEVERAGES NON ALCOHOLIC
L.C. Arny ~ New Orleans, LaFiled Dec 9, 1912
The trademark consists of the representation of an animal resembling a bird with outstretched wings.Particular description of goods Fan Taz, Celery, Ginger Ale, and Club Soda.
Claims use since May 1, 1912

Notice where the description of goods includes Fan Taz. But what I'm not sure about is whether the symbol was used on his labels, or what. I researched the name L.C. Arny and discovered he was a bottler in New Orleans for many years, and even found a number of his bottles. But other than this trademark reference, I cannot find anything else connecting him to Fan Taz. I assume he must have bottled Fan Taz at some point. Here's the link where I found the listing and the accompanying image below ...

Remember the Fan Taz bottle opener I posted a picture of? Well, as it turns out, Coca Cola used the identical opener. But what's confusing is, I discovered that both openers are stamped with ... PAT'D 9-18-14 Which suggest Fan Taz was still around in 1914 and didn't disappear in 1912-13 as I originally thought. 1. Fan Taz opener I posted earlier2. Coca Cola opener (front)3. Coca Cola opener (back) Look close and you will see they are both stamped with PAT'D 9-18-14

Bob, I checked my log book, for digging finds, in 2007 , shows I dug, a light blue straight sided crown top with round baseball ( I noted this, because of the stitch lines) ,shaped slug plate embossed with Memphis at the heel, no TENN. and nothing else, really to pinpoint a glass maker or point to a brand, also no numbers of the base to point to a date. I'm sure I sold it for about 10 bucks as a curio, an unmarked Memphis bottle, which could have had any number of Memphis Bottlers labels. I hope, I have the photo, on a CD from that time, as I recorded many of the unique bottles I dig. Your posts are great and this is an interesting topic!

CW / Rick Thanks for the info. I did a thorough search on the Internet but could not find a bottle like the one you described. We may never know for certain, but the baseball stitch embossing and Memphis connection are pretty strong indicators that your bottle could very well have been related to Fan Taz. Hopefully you still have a picture of it for future reference. Speaking of baseball related soda bottles, check out this Geo's Good Beverages from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Compare it to the Fan Taz pin and notice the similarities - both use the phrase "A Hit" and both depict a baseball and a baseball bat. I suppose it could just be a coincidence, and yet I still wonder. Geo's is short for George's and the bottle is marked with a copyright date of 1946. The embossing is icicles.

I'm still searching for those elusive Fan Taz items, but unfortunately haven't found anything that I haven't already posted. According to the 1910 Printers' Ink article, there were ... Baseball Caps Serving Trays Crystalline Glasses Even though we have seen numerous references about Fan Taz being available in bottles, the ad below is specific to ... The Union Bottling Works ~ Cincinnati, Ohio In fact, the way its worded, it sounds as if Fan Taz was first bottled in 1912, which is the date of the ad. I haven't researched the Union Bottling Works yet, but intend to. By the way, this ad is the latest I can find for Fan Taz. I can find absolutely nothing for 1913 or later! Ad from ... The Cincinnati Enquirer ~ Cincinnati, Ohio ~ September 1, 1912
