First my name is Lisa...I found this site researching a jar I have. It is a half gallon (i checked to be sure) jar. The bottom reads Atmore & Son then in the middle is says Mincemeat and below that it reads Philadelphia. I got all excited when I found this earlier post from a few years ago...As far as the Atmore & Son jar you said you dug, that would be Red Book 10 jar # 1875-1 :
Mason's Patent Nov.30th 1858 base embossed "Atmore & Son Mincemeat Philadelphia"
Listed only in 1/2 gallon size & valued at $600.00 - $750.00. A very nice hard to find jar, and in my opinion, another under-valued jar.
Very nice find!

then I asked a friend who collects and she said if it doesnt say Mason anywhere on it then it is worth maybe $5...the color I am guess has changed over the years. It is a dusky sort of grey color and I think it has a purple tint to it...I can post pics, well, I will attempt too anyways. Looking to see if you "experts" can tell me anything about it, if it is worth anything and is ebay the best bet if it is. I have a picture of it with the band on the rim too, I obtained it like this but not sure if it is the original???

Hello Lisa,

Welcome to the Blue Pages and thanks for bringing the Mincemeat.

I'd ask one of the Moderators to move this down to the Jar section. You might get some more information there.

Hello again, Lisa,

Sorry I'm no help on your jar, though it's not from lack of looking around.

Did'ya see this discussion: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/10931-i-need-some-information-on-this-jar-hel

Perhaps the larger question is; Did Atmore give birth to Alfred E. Neuman?

atmorepie.jpg

"One of the lasting icons of MAD magazine and American pop culture is MAD's official mascot, Alfred E. Neuman. The origin of the image of Neuman is somewhat hazy, though some believe the earliest image is in an ad for Atmore's Mince Meat Plum Pudding, in the Illustrated London News (the New York City edition), circa1895."
