Hey Rick, regarding your artifact with the hole: there is a piece of American Indian ornamentation that looks like that. It was worn around the neck. I don't know what it's called, but a little research into it may prove worthwhile. Nice pics and good finds..really like the pipes. (not the bagpipes)..........

That piece is made out of slate roof slate it looks like.

I love dump digging. No privies in the rural South, as most were shallow and dipped. Enjoyed this dig post. Almost felt like I was there at the dig. My exit date for retirement was moved to Oct. 17th. I am looking forward to slinging some dirt in the near future at my old dump. The slate thingy could have been a cut-out for a drain or vent pipe. I keep all the cobalt bottles. Love to give them away to kids at bottle shows. Buster
