Hi Folks, I'm not really a bottle guy in the least but I found one while metal detecting a 1700's farm and would appreciate a bit of help. The bottle is clear, has a seam all the way to the lip, the printing on the base is H255 on top line. An I inside a diamond inside an oblong (circle) followed by H 8. I think it was manufactured by Owens Illinois Glass Co. ???

Any help will be much appreciated,

EJJR

Tough tell what you have without a pic, but a clear machine made bottle without embossing or a label is something we would put into the recycling bin to be honest with you. If you post a pic we can give you an idea what it might have held, and you're right on with the Owens mark... Jim

Thanks Jim, the gentleman that owns the farm is having an open house next week and I am endeavoring to just give him a date and possible use of the bottle. I have found many artifacts such as an 1837 Large Cent which he will be displaying for the open house. Do the markings on the base indicate a date that you can tell?

Thanks,
