Here is one that I just don't get. I understand that other company's frequently recycled their compettitors bottles for their own products, but does that really increase the value of the bottle?

This is a common Hostetter's Stomach Bitters with a nice label for Schnerr's Wild Cherry Tonic. To me, this is still a Hostetter's, the label and contents are nice and all, but who is to say that it was put on by Schnerrs? Couldn't an early collector have placed this label on the bottle? Is this really worth over 2000 dollars?

Hostetter's/Schnerr's

I did a quick search and the company did exist. My guess is a nice example of a relabeled bottle. I love those, just not $2k much.

[8D] Not to me, but there are western bottle collectors with very deep pockets, and I guess it is worth it to them. And Schnerrs was a real co out of Sacto, and did apparently put there labels on others bottles. I own a Waits wild cherry tonic on a Lashes bitters bottle from Sacto, but I didnt pay $2000.00 dollars for it either.........

I agree, 2K is huge for a label on a run on the mill bottle is ridicules but if the only example of the firm is from the paper, maybe you need it.
I'd like to know if the bottle was a L&W, ABM etc. to somehow date the bottle itself. The time frame I looked at quick put the company in the 1900-10 range. It looks a bit ABM to me.
From a historical point I'd like to narrow or expand that range but I'm to lazy to research it further.[:D][:D]

It looks like atleast 3 people were in on the bidding, one quit at 600 and the other two were bidding back and forth until it sold for 2025.00

To me it would have been worth about 100 dollars.

As I said previously, this is NOT a one of a kind. Someone had acute cranial rectosis and swallowed the seller's Kool Aid. I have had several different label over Hostetter's by Sacramento tonic manufacturers. Value, $25-100, tops.

THANK YOU! I'm glad that you agree, I was really astonished at the outcome of this auction, before there were any bidders I contacted the seller and told him I didn't think his bottle was worth much (I did wish him luck though). He rubbed it in after it sold for so much!

WOW at the sale price. CALDIGR2, sell one if you still have them? Does seem pretty high. Buyer must have been rich, a fool or both. JMHO

I have a few left. The MOST I got for one was $125. It was a mid 1870s Dr Mott's Wild Cherry Tonic, Powers and Henderson, Sacramento, Cal label over an early '70s yellow amber Hostetter's. Killer graphics, but sold for what it was ACTUALLY worth.
