I recently acquired this great pictoral Houses Indian Tonic. I've not had a lot of luck trying to research it though. All my search hits have come up with the very similar Clemons Indian Tonic. Both are "prepared by Geo. W. House", who I understand was based out of Nashville. The bottle dates to around 1840s/50s based on some ads found by a friend.

That leaves me to wonder......
1. What was the relationship between House and Clemens?
2. Is this an error bottle, incorrectly featuring Houses name twice?
3. Or did this come before or after Houses partnership with Clemens?

Maybe some of the research minded people on this site will have better luck with these questions. TIA.

Please add to your text the wording embossed on the bottle. Not all of us can read it from the images.
Harry,

Text reads:
INDIAN
HOUSES TONIC
PREPARED BY
GEO. W. HOUSE

lines 2 & 3 are bisected by the embossed indian.

The House's is much rarer than the Clemen's. Same preparation as far as I know. I always figured that Clemens would've been the individual from whom House acquired the recipe. You see that on other medicines occasionally, such as Collier's Remedy, Saunder's Compound Syrup of Styllingia, etc. Great score.
