Ice Blue Hutmacher & Richter Quincy, ILL (mineral water, soda, beer?) with A&D H. C above base with great whittle and stretch marks 7" tall by 2 1/2" base. It sports a metal closure with applied top. Great looking bottle with very little information. Something new from the falconer. Enjoy.

WOW! What a killer bottle! I have the Illinois bottle book and it says that this bottle was only made in 1867 to 1868 so very short lived. It most likely held soda or some sort of ale. Would you be interested in selling this piece as I LOVE the crudeness and shape! And also because I love Illinois bottles and squats! Where did you acquire this piece if you don't mind me asking?

My wife is from Quincy. I have several Quincy sodas in my collection. A few years ago I did some research on Quincy beer and soda manufacturers and what you found out is about as much as I was able to discover as well. Memory serves that they were listed as a soda water manufacturer. This is the first picture I have ever seen of one. A very nice addition to your collection. Definitely needs to be seen on a window shelf. Scott

Thank you both for your information on the Quincy bottle. It is members like you that make this forum so special. I acquired this bottle from a serious antique collector here in Wichita KS during the liquidation of her estate in 2010 along with Ryan's, other hutch bottles, some black glass and a cathedral pickle. I was floating for weeks. The Quincy sits in a prominent window with the Ryan's. As to selling it, hard question. How do you determine worth with no history of sales? Here are some additional photos and again thanks.

Hutmacher, Edward, 673–674, 673f Link. The name Richter was interestingly not listed among the archaeology survey index.1866 Quincy City Directory, assuming it is Quincy, ILL (Not Quincy City, MASS) LINKFrom the Directory: Bottle company from 1867-1868, could not have it yet listed. C Company.I would say this is a soda, read page 10-11. A.&DH.C Could easily be an ale as well.

I use an old Nikon Coolpix 5700. Does great close-up work. I turn off the flash and back-light the bottle and allow the Program mode to do the settings which can be fudged for effect. I look for the light that will create the best effect. Thanks for the compliment. falconer

Lovely bottle, Quincy has been dug pretty heavily so if others haven't been seen it must be a nice one.
