I think it looks funny too. Looks like it was added after the fact. And btw you can get these pics done like the real thing. Check out http://civilwarphotography.com. This guy did our pics in Gettysburg with the same camera and methods they did back then. Called a tintype and very rad but very available to do today. Here's my boyfriend and myself.

The picture looks like what was called a "cabinet card" later then the UNCIVIL WAR..should be a tin type pic. if UNCIVIL WAR..RIGHT?Also above it was noted the fish bitters came out in 1866...the "WAH"was over by then.....JAMIE

Ok I am being serious here I agree with Jamie about the age of the war and the patenting of the fish bitters in 1866 but the kicker for me is the brightness seen on the fish. Somebody is going to pay big dollars for this, I hope it is legit but I am losing confidence unless someone else can explain how the light back lit the scales on the fish so well.

And not being serious here............... A Kellys Old Cabin Bitters, an Old Cabin Bitters and a Holtzermans Stomach Bitters. I think my bottles look more to scale in the picture then his fish does in his.

Steve,

Could it be there possibly was two bright windows on each side with light coming in? It would appear so in that each side of the fish has light glare, also the front leg of the chair has the same light glare. I think it's probably genuine, but who really know these days without seeing it in hand.

I follow that line of thinking Tim but in order to achieve this a very bright light source would have been needed. The dark line at the bottom of the bottle where it makes contact with the clothed table top is to straight, shouldn't it have bled in irregularly you would think. It is a tough call a lot of money and I agree with you seeing it in person would make a lot of difference.

Also, the table looks like it slants right to left, but the bottle is vertically straight, judging by the top of the bottle.

Thewrit I saw that also but the bottle placement looks somewhat slanted .Have you seen this picture of President Grant drinking the larger version of the Wares bitters. This bottle was called the Wares Flounder Bitters Patented 1868 " for people that think 32 ounces just aint enough!! " The big 40 ounce Flounder bitters is listed as quite rare in Ham and Ring,Watson doesn't even list it.

Looks fishy to me, either that man has a tiny head or the bottle is over a foot tall by my head. Didn't I see the same picture somewhere with a Drakes?
Maybe I'm imagining things.

Hey Eric,

I think there's a couple of old photos with a Drake's. Here's a cyanotype:
