Yes, its an ink. Some History on the Carter Company. And some more HEREA little more LINK.Looks TOC, maybe between 1900-1920. Minimum value to a collector, as these are common, but still a cool find.

Reid, I know you from somewhere. Are you by chance an insulator collector? Do you or did you attend the Merritt get together at Scafe's? To answer your question, because of the large mouth opening I suspect the product that once filled that container was something more like mucilage or glue. It would have required more effort to remove the contents than to just pour it out, like a dauber or stick or some such. Jim Sinsley

You have a great memory, Jim. Yes I was into insulators but decided to cut down on some hobbies so sold my collection to Howard Banks last year. Met him in Merritt and got the job done. I had been going to Merritt for many years. Thanks for your input. Reid

Turn of the century, 1890 to 1910 or there about. No such thing as a stupid question. These people are very knowledgable. Ask away ! And welcome to the forum Reid ! Mitch

Really appreciate the help and links (thanks Sharon, I see a pic of it, with label, in one of the links) and the welcomes. I've been a member here for awhile but my posts are so few and far between I feel like a newbie each time. :))
