Today in a small town antique shop I bought the bottle illustrated below. It is BIM with a tooled lip. The embossing says INSTITUTO/RAVETLLAT-PLA/BARCELONA. I did a Google and found this:

Google translated from Spanish

Apparently this bottle held a tuberculosis "cure" that arose from an unorthodox theory that has something to do with "socialist militancy." The translation is wonky at best. Perhaps someone who can read Catalan can offer a more coherent story. If I understand it, these products (there were two "cures") were mostly marketed in Latin America.

After American Pickers and Pawn Stars I'll post another pic with another interesting feature of this bottle.

I very carefully examined this bottle before purchase. Held it up to the light and everything, because I have (several times) missed flaws. I saw no flaws. After I got it home I found a potstone with cracks radiating from it. I looked in the bottle (and I wish I had the camera and skill to show you) and saw that the potstone (coated with glass) sticks into the bottle ~3/16" It looks like a tiny glass mountain sticking up from a glass plain. Here's a pic from the exterior.

Sorry for the sucky picture, but it's the best my old camera will do. Despite the flaw, I still like it. The embossing is neat and the glass is shot fulll of bubbles.

If anyone knows anything about this bottle, I would certainly enjoy hearing about it.

Thanks,
Dave
