Jacob Wisenauer

Kicked up this guy yesterday, blob top - slug plate - aqua, out of Baltimore. It still has it's wire closure in pretty condition. It's soaking at the moment but I'll post a picture in a short. Is he common?

Reads " Jacob Wisenauer Balto MD" the center has a fancy style script J over W, base is embossed W. Better picture tomorrow after it cleans up all the way.

Nice bottle there. That shape of soda bottle is called a "steamer soda" around the Baltimore area and there are over 50 different steam sodas with that same shape but different companies from Baltimore. I am a collector of them and have about 10 different ones. The one you have there is listed as common but is still a very nice bottle. It is also one of the few common Baltimore steamers i don't have actually. Nice find~henry

I am seeking a little family history and would like to know more about the Jacob Wisenauer steamer soda bottle you found. Was Jacob Wisenauer a bottler, I assume?

Do you know anything about him? Are there other Jacob Wisenauer bottles 'out there'?
Do you know the time period this bottle came from? Is there a source for this type of info?

The bottle pictured above is the older of the 2 bottles associated with Jacob Wisenauer and the more common the other bottle is embossed J. Wisenauer & Sons and is listed as rare. Without doing alot of research I would say that his buisness was in a time frame of about late 1870's to 1890's. There are no other bottles types listed with his name only the blob tops. The way to research it is to look under the baltimore directories starting in the 1880's and go forward or back depending on what you are looking for. Hope this helps a little........Greg

Thank you, Greg. Will try that. Wisenauer is a very unusual surname. There were 2 Jacobs that I know of......1 great grand uncle and my great great grandfather. This bottle may be a good clue, though I believe there were other Jacobs in the Baltimore area at that time. Thank you! ~ Family History Seeker

Good to see you were able to find an answer, a lot of Baltimore people here who know their bottles. As an FYI the one I asked about was not found in Maryland, bottles tend to travel. I've read where they've showed up in West Coast digs, I will post a picture of it cleaned up later tonight. Came out pretty clean.
