Thanks Leon, The bottom is embossed, PUTNAM.I had never seen that on anything other than mason jars

I just posted a Question about Putnam on the bottiom of one of my 1870's beer bottles a few weeks ago, Can't remember what kind of response I got? LEON.

Just PUTNAM on the base is the closure patent as far as I know and could have been made in any number or glasshouses going back to the 1870's.This is my third writeup (though shortened considerably) and if fails I'm done. [:mad:]

Thank you, I found some information on the "Putnam Glasshouse" from Ohio which did operate in the 1870s.Perhaps they shortened the manufacturing embossing to only "Putnam".

According to Historic Glass Bottle Identification & Information Website, Putnam started in 1856. Some time in the 1870's shortened to just Putnam.
