My SIS and BRO.in law sent Nina and me money for Christmas...which was so sweet of them...I love them dearly...we don't get to each other often because they live in North western N.C. and we in GA......we spent most of the money on bills and was glad of it!

I kept enough to get me a little something off ebay...that I will sell later, but will enjoy for a little while any way.

It arrived in the mail today! It is a April 17,1824 "NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER" paper from Baltimore.

The reason I wanted it so is because it has a really long article on the CHEROKEE INDIANS and what was going on with and to them at the time!I have not read it all yet...but it is a great piece of history of the place in GA. we live in.I found a piece of an arrow head in our front yard...

Sadly this town had a stockade in the 1830s where they kept the rounded up Cherokees that lived in this area until all were rounded up and then all sent on the TRAIL OF TEARS!A BAD PART OF OUR HISTORY!

The Choctaws were also sent with the Cherokees .NINA has CHOCTAW blood...one of her ancesters fought in the Revolutionary WAR and married a Choctaw lady...Soilders showed up at their door one day and took the man,his wife, her sister and mom and sent them all on the trail of tears!NO WARNING !!That the man had served in the military himself and fought in the WAR COUNTED FOR NOTHING!

On the way the man escaped...a bit later the mom and the two daughters[The Mother was old and in bad health] were left behind in the wilderness to fend for themselves as the mom was sick and was slowing them down...AT least they had a bit of mercy in also leaving the daughters with her.

Mean while the man had doubled back and found them!THEY WENT BACK HOME!

IT WAS JUST MEANT TO BE NINA GIRL AND ME WERE TO BE TOGETHER![&:]JAMIE

That's a pretty excellent family story Jamie, I can't begin to imagine how tough life must have been for them. So what happened when they returned "home"? Did they have to hide in the wilderness or did their former neighbors approve their return to society?

Sounds like a great purchase, Jamie. Old newspapers are really interesting. Any ads in there for medicines or stuff like that?

Carobran, there are many Seneca casinos and places like that on their nearby reservation. I'm glad they can make some money from that. We took everything else from them. It's fun to go play the slots once in a blue moon, if you are of age.

STEPHEN:I don't really know...but since NINA is here can only sumise they were left in peace...this was in the SAND MOUNTIAN region of ALABAMA...Nina has Cherokee blood as well as the Choctaw...She is decended from Scottish-Jewish people that married into the Choctaw NATION from SAND MOUNTAIN and known as MELUGEON FAMILYS...I looked all this up NINA and her family didn't know and don't care![8D]I just love history!

CAR-DUDE maybe NINA can get in on some of that action!

LAUR:I have not yet read it in great detail..but I saw no pics. of meds. any way...but did see some ads for hats etc. so far.

The really bad part of all this is NINA's family care little about family ancestery...They had me over when they were gonna look through the old trunk that had belonged to NINA's great Grand mother's .It had not even been looked into in all the years of the Grand kids or Great grand kids...THERE was a wonderful tin type pic. of ladies sitting in what looked like Antibellum dress and they looked like NATIVE AMERICANS..to me..I made a big deal over it...they don't know what happened to it!Also there were some great homade clothes in there...because they were stained they took off the buttons[geez] and threw away the clothes!I told them how cool these were too...THANKFULLY NINA and I redeemed many great things off the road side that had been cleaned out and thought worthless!

A really old milk pitcher...two home made bread bowls..one very large and both very old and some other things...
