Hope the great minds here can tell me what this is. Found while bottle hunting. Glazed in the inside but not the outside. Initials RM on base and near top of the bottle. Dairy products? About 8 inches tall and 7.5 at base. Openining under 3 inches.

Thanks. Keeping fingers crossed. Rare that I can find nothing similar through internet search.

Hi crkgrl,

It looks like it could be the inside of a thermos type container, hence being glazed on the inside but not out, it could have had a metal or plastic housing at one time. It looks like a thermos we had as kids in the 70's.

I'd say a stoneware canning jar with an unglazed outside, probably done to save money....

I have seen storage containers for temperature sensitive chemicals that looked a lot like this.

Hey thanks for the replies! Interesting.

Riverdiver, It's pretty big and heavy for a drink thermos.

Epackage, Stoneware canning jar was the closest I came for a similar look through an Internet search. How would that be utilized in canning? Always thought items were heated and put in glass jars. Would it be for a particular consumable?

Hey Luckiest, Sensitive chemical container; even more interesting. Any particular chemicals in mind?

It was found near an old dairy farm, but also where much has been dumped over the years. Mostly 1920's-50's.

Thanks TJS and Bottles,
Pickling or canning is winning the race. Found this on google under canning crocks.
