I am looking for information about a bottle my dad found in Thirsk about 30 years ago.
It reads
Dover & Newsome
Baxter Ltd
Fermented Ginger Beer
The picture is of a small hot air balloon with basket
Newcastle & Northallerton

Any information would be greatly apprieciated.
Thanks
JCB

Newsome Baxter purchased an existing brewery in Thornton-le-Moor in 1851. The brewery dates from 1737 and was bought by Dover in 1897, from whence it was used to bottle mineral waters. I have done quite a lot of research into the history of the brewery and the Baxter family. I would be very nterested in purchasing the ginger beer bottle if you decide to sell it.

Thanks for that info, it is greatly appriecated. I have checked out the Thornton Le Moor website.
Unfortunately, the bottle is not for sale, I once put it on ebay and was offered about £350 for it, but never sold it. Do you know whether many bottles exist, as I posted many requests for information on various websites but never got any feedback.

Read the chapter on TLM brewery in the book, Everyone had a Pig, on the TLM website, written by us. It's a pity you don't want to sell the bottle, but £350 is a lot to pay anyway! I don't know if there are many bottles around. It's almost 100 years since the brewery closed.

Hi,

My husband is the grand grand child of Newsome Baxter who was the owner of the brewery. We now live in Canada and we would be extremely interested in getting more information about it. We were in Thorton le Moor 2 years ago and we visited the site where the brewery used to be. Please let us know if we could buy or trade anything for the bottle. We are trying to collect souvernir from our family heritage. This would mean a lot to us.

Thanks

Hi Melissa

It was us that you came to see in 2007 on the brewery site. You have the copy of the book 'Everyone had a Pig' and there is not much more information available. Did you manage to get the Brewery signs made from the one you borrowed from Brewery House?

I will let you or Myrna know if I find any more information about the Brewery or the Baxter family. Regards to Dan.
