I had a few doubts when I saw the item listed: the colouring on the top of the lid does not appear to match the base; as well as the design is not a crisp transfer which gives the impression that it is a black and white copy of a coloured transfer (I believe there may have been a Robert Smith listed in a blue transfer - whcih is genuine and very rare) that has then been applied to an authentic plain lid.
Deantiques website lists some further details on reproductions, fakes, copies of pot lids: http://www.deantiques.com/PLG/reproductions__copies.htm
Thanks guys. I believe a few collectors sent this seller an email suggesting a review of the above reference on repos. Seems most recieved a reply something in the order of that his particular lid was not listed on this site and in any event the content was only one collectors opioion, and it is up to those who dispute origionality to prove otherwise in a reference book. I guess to some degree he had a point, but.....
