I bought these today at a yard sale
Can anyone tell me anything about them. I am still fairly new at bottle collecting.
I think I have narrowed down the age 1860's - 1880's due to the stopper type, Please tell me if I'm wrong.
But I cannot find any info on the companies
Merriam & Schreiber cor. 3rd ave and 66th st, XXX Porter Ale, NO Cracks and fairly clean
Ham Brothers- Ham's Amarita- can't find any info, was this soda, water, or beer.
Thank you Rock

Hello John,

Did you see that our member annie44 has a Merriam & Schreiber Ne Plus Ultra?

A similar model just sold @electronic auction.

I'm always pleased to see those Putnam Stoppers.

"Putnam Closure, circ: 1859-1905,
Invented by: Henry William Putnam,
American Patent: March 15, 1859, Number: 23,263,
American Patent Reissued: January 19, 1864, Reissue Number: 1,606,
This cork fastener was the standard used on corked soda and mineral water bottles during the1860s, 1870s and early 1880s when it was replaced with the Hutchinson stopper. The bail was reusable and the bottler was not required to rewire the cork with every refilling of the bottle." Thanks to Tod.

Merriam & Schreiber were list in the soda water business in 1873 only. In 1874 they had moved to selling segars, but could have bottled soda and beer as well.
