Hi Anna,

The white pipe in the center above the 3 stems is the 1500's era pipe, if I want earlier ones I would have to dive in salt water as all of my pipes were recovered while diving freshwater rivers in New England. This photo represents a grouping of pipes that I swapped with "athometoo' for some Texas collectibles as he does not find clay pipes in Texas.

Hi Matt.

What river did the 1500s pipe come out of? The only river I could think of with stuff that old in NH would be the Piscatiqua..and even then, it must be the first pipe they ever tossed into it?

Found this, just to be sure I was right about the above assertion:

LINK.

(1623) New Hampshire [Homepage, Constitution]
(Roots-L Database , Grant of Hampshire to Capt. John Mason, 7th of Novemr., 1629 , A New Hampshire Almanac , A Brief History of New Hampshire )

In 1623 two groups of English settlers, sent by Captain John Mason, arrived in what is now called New Hampshire (after John Masons home County of Hampshire) and established a fishing village near the mouth of the Piscataqua River. New Hampshire would remain an English colony throughout the colonial period even though, at various times, it came under Massachusetts jurisdiction. [Note from the webmaster: Thanks to an alert reader, this is newly added information for New Hampshire (11/03/05).]

Good call oldtimer,

You are right on the location, it was found upriver from the Coast Guard station and about 100' from shore.
