Has anyone any idea what this could have contained and what the pattern might be called . I think it must date to c1850 .

Hi Wendy,
This jar was probably made at the Pratt factory in Staffordshire England and would have held Fish Paste. It was made around the 1850 -1860 period and the name of the scene is the Continental Fish Market. This scene is relatively common and the pot would be worth around $100.00.
