So glad to be adding this R. Swinley Paterson, NJ Weiss beer to my collection. Back embossed “The contents only- of this bottle are sold- return the bottle.

Yes, that's an interesting way of saying that; one I have never seen before. Funny that the horseshoe is facing the way it is though. Old Yankee wisdom says you should put the horseshoe with the ends facing up to catch good luck. ;)

You can hang the horseshoe either way. In a U it "collects" good luck. In an "n" it is supposed to ward off evil because it allows the good luck to "flow out". Most bottles I have seen that have a horseshoe embossed have it in the "n" orientation.

FYI-if anyone is interested. The green Good Luck bottle above is for sale right now on ebay. It ends tonight at about 7:00 MST. It's pretty nice. search timeandabottle seller name and you'll find it.

If I ever nail a horseshoe to a wall or elsewhere I will have it facing up. Does anyone have an article/link/anything to suggest how and/or the four Ws the up tradition got started? Thanks.
