I picked up this jar over the weekend at the Minnesota Bottle Show. It is an aqua quart improved style closure embossed "Mason's Patent Nov 30th 1858" with backwards N's in Patent and Nov. Pretty interesting double error jar. It also came with a very nice glass insert embossed with a Sun-Moon-Star. Is this jar Ball made?[attachment=Ns 1.JPG][attachment=Ns 2.JPG]

I wouldn't have bought the jar if it didn't have that insert. It's funny how a lid can make all the difference. Any thoughts on the maker of this jar? Typically I associate the sun-moon-star logo with older Ball jars, but I'm not sure about the glass inserts. The previous owner must have put this insert on this jar for a reason.

I can virtually guarantee that Ball made these jars with the backwards N's. Some examples have a slug plate circle on either the front or back, and you can match up the mold numbers to earlier BBGMCo monogram jars made in the same molds. Jim Sears

Jim, Thanks for that nugget! I looked over this jar and indeed there is a circular slug plate on the back. It is very faint, but distinct.

Nice jar for sure! And yes, I agree with Jim that it is a Ball Brothers made jar. I have a clear example of this jar, somewhere. Not everything unpacked yet. Not holding my breath to find a clear example of that lid though. David
