There are many different variations of the Rumford Chemical Works bottle. Check out this link to the Little Rhody Bottle Clubs Bottle Book, they list all of the known sizes and colors, and list scarcity as well. This bottle is known in many colors, some scarce, some rare. The teal ones are so common that that's the only ones most of us have ever seen. It's a nce looking bottle no matter what the color though.
Here's a pic of the later bottles in different colors as well. Again, common in teal, rare in emerald green, extremley rare in yellow green.
There are other variation as well, such as one with much narrower shoulders that is extremely rare in any color. Check out the Rhody bottle book online, they detail all the sizes and style really well.
Ah yessssssssss, my first bottle dig, my first dug bottle, a Rumford. Half intoxicated, half sick from the heat, nothing had been taken along to drink, got so desperate I drank river water, got sicker than I already was, we dug all night and all I found in the ash on that river bank was a blasted Rumford, finally left that morning for home, made one more stop at another place, opened the door, stepped out, and my Rumford followed me rolling across the seat, out the door, landed on the concrete, broke into a hundred pieces, ahh yesss, my first bottle dig. THANK GOODNESS THERE WERE BETTER DIGS TO FOLLOW !!
I did end up with another one later on Zane, my story concerning the first one I dug was no over exaggeration at all. That was the beginning of my getting into the hobby what a way to get started !. Yours looks quite a bit cruder than the ones I have had, none of the necks were crooked on any that I have found over the years. As you say, it is an attractive bottle, and I was surprised to see how many different colors there are of them. I have always thought they were only the one color. till I saw the ones posted these last several days.
when i found a shard of a teal one last year i thought wow this must be a million dollar bottle . then i found out the price of a whole one and said this should be a million dollar bottle , i love them and almost bought one last fall for 5 bucks , but that would break my rule of digging . someday i will find one . till then i can look at yours kkkkk. sam
