I purchased a new "eastern" jake for my collection today. It's the typical size and shape but this is one I have never heard of before. I know from "google books" that it was a company in business in the early 1880's. What I want to know is if anyone else has seen this particular one and what do you know about it.

The embossing reads: SMITH KLINE & CO. / ESSENCE OF / JAMAICA GINGER / PHILADELPHIA

Nice bottle, it's a pleasant sight to see after all those F. Brown's Jamaica Gingers.

Thank you guys for the replies. I'm thinking I found a good one. Atleast "scarce".

Conch, I have not seen the one you mentioned before either, "Jaques".............. I would like to see a photo of it if you wouldn't mind posting one. Isn't "Jaques" french for Jake? A Jake "Jake".....[:D]

Whew! Haven't seen a post from Wilkie in a while. Where did you pick up this jake?

Hi Jason, I still post occasionally, I'm just not active on here anymore. I used to use the forum at work all the time but I think my IP address was blocked by admin when I got into it with one of the "untouchables" on here. Right now I'm on my IPhone and it's kind of a pain to type on this tiny keypad. I still have access from home though.

Anyway, this jake showed itself on eBay and I was the only bidder. I am happy with the purchase, it's getting harder and harder to find Jakes that I don't have.

Conch, as a collector of Jamaica Gingers I am interested in buying yours if you want to sell it. It is one I don't have yet. Or trade if there is a particular category that your interested in.
