I was digging in a south mississippi creek Sunday and dug a straight side crown top (with the top broken off), that was embossed in a round slug plate "Odell's Bottling Works McCook Neb.". I can't find anything about this bottle online. Anybody got any info on this bottle? Ever seen of it or heard of it?

According to these newspaper articles, Elza Odell and son purchased the McCook Bottling Works in 1905, remained in business for five years, and then sold the bottling works to C.C. Porter in 1910. I'm assuming that during Odell's tenure the company was called Odell Bottling Works. After Porter purchased it the name reverted back McCook Bottling Works. 1. " Hand blown in a two part mold.It is an interesting old soda. RED M.

Because of the 1905 to 1910 dates for the Odell Bottling Works, those bottles are narrowed down to within about five years. But I would think the McCook Bottling Works bottles would be a little harder to date. The earliest date I can find for McCook Bottling Works is 1886, with B. Platt as the proprietor. Then it became Odell Bottling Works between 1905 and 1910, with Elza Odell as the proprietor. And then it reverted back to McCook Bottling Works in 1911 with C.C. Porter as the proprietor. I'm thinking the tricky part would be how to differentiate between a pre-1905 bottle and a post-1910 bottle, both of which are likely marked with McCook Bottling Works. I saw a listing for a McCook Bottling Works Hutchinson bottle, which is no doubt from the pre-1905 era.

For example ... Here's a McCook Bottling Works bottle - but is it pre-1905 or post-1910? (The accompanying description did not indicate a date nor mention the bottle having a makers mark)

It's a straight side crown top bottle, in a round slug plate, and I'm pretty sure it's BIM. It has an arching "Odell's" in the top of the slug plate, "bottling works" in the middle of the slug plate, and "Mccook Neb" at the bottom of the slug plate. What I really like about it is the way the word "Odell's" is arched.
