I recently bid on a lot of bottles at an auction and one of those that I came home with was this W. H. Mervine bottle which I know nothing about. I have done a Yahoo and Google search on W. H. Mervine with very few hits. The little bit that I could find seemed to indicate an old beer bottle. As you can see from the pics. it is embossed with W. H. Mervine and Contents 8 oz. on the shoulder and Stroudsburg, Pa and Registered around the lower end of the bottle. There is no embossing on the bottom. Any of you folks have any more information on this bottle and W. H. Mervine? Seems odd that nothing really seems to come up with an online search. Thanks in advance for any thoughts. MIKE

I forgot to mention the one bit of information that I did find was a site that allowed you to search some old newspaper archives and there was a brief mention of the building that had been in use by W. H. Mervine alcohol distributor now being available for rent due to prohibition. I can also say that for its size, it is a heavy bottle, wouldn't want to get whacked upside the head with it.MIKE

hi , I would say the bottle was made between 1906 and 1912 . wye I say that is befor the 1906 there was no requirement to put capacity on bottles ,and after 1912 most beer bottles were machine made and yours looks hand tooled.

It takes some patients but once you get a first name things open up. You may with some keyword manipulation find he went into the soda business during prohibition, I didn't look too far.

This about Pocono Bot'g Wks, "The wholesale company was developed by Wade Mervine (1877-1946), who owned and operated the business for years before selling to John Hoffstadt of Stroud Township. Hoffstadt sold the company in 1954 to Mrs. Louis Piff of Bethlehem." FROM

Stroudsburg.—Wade H. Mervine was appointed receiver for the Stroudsburg Brewing Co. Assets, $40,000; liabilities, $100,000. From 1913
