Hey everyone, I posted these in here because I have no idea what they were used for and they have no seems in them. WOuld anyone know what they would have been used for? I seem to find a lot of them.
Hi, Cryptic. 2nd one was for Haarlemdruppels (Haarlem drops or Dutch drops). There was a thread on them not so long ago.
Think the first one is a perfume, have also dug quite a few of them. Sure surfaceone will come in with an answer on it !
First one has always been identified as OPIUM as far as I know. They are often found in Chinese camps. The second one had something similar for contents I have been told. I have several examples of each as I collect bottles 3" or less tall.
Cryptic,
We find a lot of these in dumps in Hawaii, they are also mistaken as opium bottles...what they really are is Chinese medicine bottles...this particular medicine bottle that I have in my collection is a original Chinese medicine bottle with the full content of a white powder and it's original paper label, it has a small cork on the top which was sealed with wax, I found out through translation that this bottle contains a powdered medicine which was used for cuts, you would pour this powder over your cut...aloha Earl
Nice Chinese med. Those things have been called "opiums" since the infancy of bottle collecting. Some folks persist in perpetuating this myth, especially antique shops in the Mother Lode in CA. We find those things in piles sometimes and half blow up when they are washed. I sell 'em for 50¢, maybe a buock for the large ones, and that's all they are worth.
