This is a good time of year for research. One way to research is by looking at old topo maps. If you have a high speed internet connection you can try http://historical.maptech.com/ for old top maps from the early 1900's. A topo map will show you the locations of old houses, schools, churches, etc. I look for farms away from waterways (if there's a nearby stream or river the farmers more than likely just pitched the trash in the water). With WV's hilly terrain the dump will usually be located in the nearest hollow, gulley, or low spot, or just over the nearest hill. At maptech you can also look at modern topo maps to make sure the area you're researching hasn't been strip mined or otherwise destroyed.
