Picked this up at an online auction. Paid a pretty penny but the pics from auction were dark and made it look dark puce or something. People saw it and bid but bailed far below what I feel this color is worth. Couldn't believe the color when I got it. Cost like 8 bills including premium and...
Man, did you guys see that soda on Ebay? I hit it at close to $4000.00 but that was a joke I guess. Did over 6 grand! Just closed tonight. Incredible sided Cincinnati bottle. H. GUY Ginger Pop Cincinnati Ohio. Had a frigging open pontil too. I collect pickles but tried to steal it. What a...
Picked this up at a local auction. I paid for it but I know its a rare variant. Cant find auction record for this style. Iron pontiled beauty and very close to mint. Super shape for a soda. Any ideas? I find a vague reference to this bottle as being made for a year only but no more info. Any...
Picked up this little pint at a local farm auction for 30 bucks! I collect pickles but its a nice window bottle in great shape. Says Pittsburgh Pa in the oval on one side. Great color. Its a pretty bottle and as Bob Barker might say "The Price was right!" Johnny M.
Here is another pickle I had to wait about 26 years to get back. I originally bought it from my 11 year old digging buddy for 10 bucks when I was about the same age or a little younger. Probably about 1972. Claimed he found it in a caved in barn in the woods. Long story short, I got screwed out...
Here is a pickle I missed out on when auctioned in 1989 by Glassworks Auctions. The winner had it about 34 years now and finally agreed to sell it to me. It's a William Underwood from Boston. Been a while since I added such a nice one to the shelf. Pretty good size too and mint. Thought I...
Well a new pontil type had been discovered and is being used on Ebay in an intentionaly misleading manner in my opinion by somebody who knows bottles but feels the need to include a heavily searched keyword that has nothing to to with the probably 1890s Silliman Chemical Works bottle being...
Here is a new soda I got at a local auction. Non dug attic find. Was filthy with black dust but washed to mint. Crude with no wear or stain. Un-embossed but what a beauty! Trying to do this from computer instead of phone to see if I can add photos properly. Johnny M.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/oU9JWxsRQunkC3s6A. Nice pickle today for 3 bucks! 15" tall and crude. Pic doesn't show all the bubbles and seeds. Has a crown embossed on base. Fun little tickler because I collect pickles mostly. Not the rarest but big crude and old! :)
Another day, another type of pontil. This is the newly categorized pontil style on an Ebay puce colored large ink bottle recently listed. I wish I had a colored cathedral pickle for every type of pontil there is now! :)
I don't know how to post a link but look at the frigging pontil on the new Ebay listing for "cathedral arches pickle bottle". Darn glasshouse should be sued posthumously for releasing a weapon!! :)
I'm on the fence with this practice. It sells bottles for sure because amethyst is an attractive color but deep down it seems deceptive as it was not done through age and time. Some Ebayers are going overboard in my opinion to make a buck. Bottles are as purple as frigging Italian plums!
Just wondering if there are people whom can expertly precision spot polish light scratches and surface scuffs, rubs etc and blend them in well with the rest of the bottles good surface . Don't want to polish whole bottles for a few or even several light abrasions. I'm not gonna screw around with...
Here's another pontil puzzle. Now they were using iron pontils on barrel bitters into the 1870's! At least he calls it an iron pontil instead of graphite. I will give him that. Seems like a novice and not really a bottle guy. Probably did a tad of research and/or was told that by the person he...
Hey guys, any body ever seen this iron pontiled barrel shaped beer or brewery bottle from Belleville Illinois? Can only find reference to the brewery as being established in the 1850's by the Herberer Brothers City Park Brewery in Belleville. This bottle is embossed: "T. Heberer (not Herberer)...
Hey guys and Gals. Just signed up and enjoying the forum. I collect colored cathedral pickles and dabble in colored pontil meds. I enjoy scouring the net and countryside for good bottles to introduce to the hobby . Will post pics of my latest find in next post in proper category I guess to see...
