I know what it is. It is a insulator for the coils on a electric
cook top stove. I have the same exact ones on my stove.
The coil ends fit in the groves and the wires feed through
the opposite side. The clips just hold the two haves together.
They are clear glass so if there is a problem...

There is no doubt that it is 19th century European. From a few German glass web sites I have seen them for sale. There are several variations of that flask also. I think it would be a nice addition
to any collection.
Its a shame that people will try just about anything
to make a fast buck. I hope nobody is foolish enough
to think they would be getting a deal. Steve, your reconstruction of the neck tells the real story.

Thanks Charles, I think being civil is the best approach. As for the Persian saddle flask I have often looked at them wondering myself about there history. As collectors of early glass and bottles, I think I would consider most collectors students of early glass. I enjoy studying early glass but...
Stephen, I apologize for not giving you the credit for
the gun rack style flask stand. Thanks to Sandchip who
pointed out I made a mistake. I want to thank you for your
very good idea that helped me come up with the flask stand.
