I got out for a couple of dives over the past week or two... this is my wall of "stuff". I picked a couple of nice pontil pieces but those are soaking and coming nice and clean! Anyways, I thought I would post some of this stuff before tossing them into boxes!

Can anyone help me identify this cobalt blue vase /decanter?? It has a nice engraved floral design with gold paint. It was deep in the mud so it stayed nicely preserved. The base is rayed like a Pittsburgh piece. Pretty piece, and in perfect condition (after a soapy bath!)

Mike

Hi Mike,
It's great to see that you've been out diving! I got a new wetsuit today ( one that FITS! ) WHat a difference, I feel like a new man! My other one has been way too small.

I went out today AND yesterday, but the water is all mucked up from the rain. I'm in a mini slump, but I'm probably spoiled :)

Can't help you with that cobalt piece, I'd have to see it in person. Cobalt, and "etched glass" makes me think it's a barber bottle, and not much $$, but it looks like a heavier piece, so it's hard to tell.

That nice frilly piece is really cool, don't know if it 's a vase or lamp piece, they are always amazing to get, I got a fantastic one this spring. Never got stuff like that digging, that type of item is definately a 'dive friendly " type of piece.

I'm getting very spoiled, and very impatient. I haven't got a good bottle diving in ten days or so, and I'm already getting antsy.
Give me a call or email some time if you want to go for a dive. I prefer to dive with someone else for safety reasons, and just for the fun of seeing what each other got, but he guys I dive with are pretty busy with work usually.

Glad you got some good stuff, and thanks for posting!

The frilly thing is part of an an epernge, and probably circa 1840s. I found it in the same area that I pulled out that 1/2 of the GIV-16 Masonic flask and a perfect little 12 sided ink.

The cobalt piece is much heavier than a barber bottle and it feels more like a decanter or a vase. The floral design isn't just painted, it is actually engraved into the glass.

Yes, we will have to do some diving together. I am planning to get out at least a day or two per week this summer. I went out today, and ran into a HUGE snapper... I was about 2 feet away and he wasn't moving... so I did, and quickly!

Mike
