Hello everyone. I cleaned a few bottles. They never really get clean. What is sickness? I've heard this term used before. My finds are on death row.[:D] The bottle on the right I guess is cut and etched, with a smooth pontil. I would really like info on this. The blue is vertically ribbed on three sides, and has M in circle on bottom. Thanks Christine.

My favorite "wine"? bottle. What color is this? Age? Deep kick-up. Great bubbles. I love it. CM

If I cleaned that better it would be perfect. Check out the Squibb, another beautiful color. What would you call it? All I know about it is that they were a pharmacutical co. I have another brown, but smaller and a great green.

Here is the green squibb, I was told that this poison is a triliods. Is it true even if it doesnt say so? I like the clear as well, any ideas on what that may be?

What is "Certo", and what on earth was it used for? Pretty color also. The other end of the browns. What would you call this color?

Hi sassycb -

Certo is used in canning jellies, etc., it contains pectin which helps to thicken the jelly so it isn't all runny. It is still sold in stores. The bottle color would be described as amber.

Last one for today. I found Citrate Magnesia in a banner in Kovels, but only in brown and I think green. Does that mean clear is more common? And last but not least, who is Peeko? Thank you all so much for your thoughts and comments. Christine

I believe the clear ribbed bottle is an apothecary/chemistry bottle. Here is one I have, it was recovered from an old lab.

Christine, this article will give you some info about "sick glass".

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/roadshow/tips/sick_glass.html

I'd like to see the pontil mark on the bottom of your tall clear bottle/decanter. If possible, take the pix with the bottle held at a angle, instead of taking it straight-on ~ and a close-up of the lip, please. Is it ground for a stopper? What is the height?

The insect pattern is wheel cut, not etched. Etching is done with acid and will feel rough to the fingertips while cutting can be felt either by fingertips or running your fingernail over the pattern. ;-)
