My dad found this 7up bottle in the mid fifties and held onto it because it was so unusual. He gave it to me and I want to know approximate value. It is amber in color (we thought it was red all these years), it has 8 bubbles and on the bottom it says Star Beverage Co., and San Diego

I am a newbie and this is pretty much the only bottle I have. I would entertain any offers if any one is interested. This bottle was found out in the back country of Utah and there was a mine in the area that was abandoned. Thanks in advance for any help.

dwetzel I'm from san Diego and very familiar with your amber 7up bottle. That particular, standard/slim version was only produced in San Diego and is in high demand locally. Most of them date to 1936, with some dating to 1935. In mint condition they can bring as much as $700.00. However, examples with heavy paint loss are worth considerably less. Based on your pictures, I'd say your bottle is worth about $75.00 to $100.00. Here's a chart with dates showing which locals distributed the amber 7ups, including both the squat/stubby bottle as well as the slim San Diego bottle.

Thanks for your reply SodaPopBob. I read the information you posted when you were holding a bottle from a museum. the number to the right of the middle symbol signifying the year is hard to distinguish. In the right light and using magnification it could be a 5 but also could be a 6. If anyone you know is interested you can PM me.

dwetzel I don't know of anyone right at the moment, but will let you know if/when I do. I'd offer you $75.00 myself, but to tell you the truth, I'm leaning more toward selling these days than I am in buying. I have been collecting soda bottles for about 40 years now and almost at the point where its time to cash-out my collection.

Thanks for the kudos - at 63 years old I'm more interested in researching soda bottles these days than I am in adding to the approximately 500 I already have. I keep telling myself its time to sell out, but to actually do that would be like... well, let's just say it wouldn't be an easy thing to do.
