Hi!
I have love digging. I find it compelling and enjoyable. However, I have developed several serious illnesses and wonder if digging in landfill material caused me to get ill. I am collaborating with an environmental scientist/ researcher at Emory University to study this.
Would any other diggers be interested in participating in a health survey and providing soil samples from your dig spot? Of particular interest, legacy landfills, railroad frontage areas, privy and other areas with ash and legacy incinerator waste. This Five-year NIH study is called a Research to Action study. If there are validated toxins in the soil samples and correlated health risks to people in the digging hobby, we could suggest safety measures for us and our families.
