Hi all! I’m just looking for opinions as to whether or not you all consider JH Purdy oil lamps a bottle or not? I’ve always considered them as one as they are close in resemblance to a target ball. I think they’re beautiful 3-piece mold bottles with a bonus stand, arm, and wick! Do any of you collect them? Thoughts? Thanks in advance as always.

That's a beautiful lamp! I wouldn't consider a lamp to be a bottle, but I would definitely think it would go well in a collection of antique bottles, the same way insulators do. I've got one or two antique lamps in my collection too.

They come in two sizes and are in various colors so they do look good on a shelf of bottles! Purdy considered the smaller diameter lamp a Jewelers Lamp and he sold the larger diameter lamp as shown above as a "watchmaker's lamp." They didn't stick around long as too many folks tipped them over and with an open flame, caught their shop on fire! (FYI: The one shown above is an extra one I'm selling on the big auction site right now if anyone is interested in it. My timeandabottle name here is what I use there.)
