Machines have a way to find and discard those. A newer bottle is less common to have those. That's a thick one too.

Your right cowseatmaize. They have a scanner that looks down through the finish and it can detect the presence of a bird swing or a spike. The birdswings are caused by the collapse of the parison on the invert of the parison from the blank mold (parison mold). to the final blow mold. If the insides of the parison touch each other - the glass walls stick together and pull a bird swing across the inside of the bottle.
The spike is a problem that occurs in the IS ABM press and blow system. What happens is that the plunger tip gets too hot and the glass in the parison sticks to the plunger which pulls up a spike in the bottom of the parison. I should point out that the glass is pulled down when this happens because it is done before the parison is transferred to the final mold.
The problem of both of these errors, is really quite a hazard if either gets broken in the filling process, because this makes a big problem if the glass piece gets ingested by someone.
