HELLO ALL, I have this bottle that came to me with an unusual story that I will post later as I do not want to taint my search for valid info. First, I am a very novice bottle-head, so please bear with me and forgive my clumsyness. If you look at the photos you will see this is pretty tall at nearly 13 inches. The seam stops and the top 3/4 ths inch is smooth. But is is certainly not blob-top. There is no marking that I can find except for a mark on the well worn bottom. The thicknes of the bottom is uneven and there atre several air bubbles. I have more pix I you want.

That is a cathedral pickle circa 1900. Not the fanciest I have seen but still a nice bottle.

Can't tell you all how much I appreciate the quick help. One of the truly great things about the internet is meeting nice people in the various forums. Ok back to the bottle, first I didnt show you the side that is cracked. It was never glued, it has just held together on its own, I dont know what about that and shipping might not be good thing to do. You might have also noticed a ding in the bottom, Just condition issues. My next question may be answered by a bottle collector who was a navy Vet in WWII, as part of the 'great story' was that it was used 'message-in -a-bottle' style and tossed in the brink from the USS Yorktown. They have a massive web site and I am going to email them to see if they can put me in touch with a vet from their galley( pickle dept,) at that point in time. one thing for sure - it does not look to me that it ever spent any time in the sea. Perhaps some one cleaned it up, I don't really know.. One thing I DO know: I found four of the six names printed on it on rosters from POW camps. Their names were hand printed on a piece of old parachute silk. The bottle cork is missing. The owner got it at a flea market more than 20 years ago an doesn't remember much more than what I have told you. Any more research help out there would be greatly appreciated. There is no actual 'message', My un-educated guess is that some men on the Yorktown knew the six guys somehow( home town, basic, relative etc) Four Navy two Army. They knew that they were all pows somewhere in Japan, it reads "To: TOKYO POW CAMP KAWASAKI JAPAN No.2" and "From: OFFICERS and MEN U.S.S.YORKTOWN" below that are printed the six names and their ranks.I discovered on POW web page that to find any POW run gooogle/yahoo search like this"Wyllsey,T.V."+POW-- This is one of the actual name from the message.
