recently I've started collecting bricks, mostly embossed common brick and fire brick it's kind of fun to recheck picked out spots for a new thing to collect. I went downtown in Bennington there's a small creek that runs out back of a mill built in 1854. there was alot of bricks in this little creek area I hopped accross on the other side of the creek there was alot of iron slag and melted stuff I found a fire brick that said "Fenton's No 1. Bennington VT." the pottery mostly made orinmental decorations but also other products as well, the brick dates to the 1850's it's in rough shape and barely legable, but it's a cool find for me, because I love the local history ( I actully said YES! and held it in the air than put it in the sack.) I also learned that, in the 1870's there was a huge explosion at the mill they rebuilt it and it still stands. I think they buryed the debris from the explosion along that creek it's to close to private land and houses ( but not posted or invaseive where I was checking) so I doubt I could dig unless I get permission and I highly doubt I'd get permission.
a drawing of the explosion is here:
