I have been collecting for at lest four years now, and that is about the length of time that I have been aware and putting off buying this item. It appears to be a Dr Pepper "candy stripe" carton, that also has an advertisement for serving Dr Pepper hot on the other side. I found this in Bluefield, WV which makes me wonder if it isn't from the local Dr Pepper plant in nearby Bluefield, VA. Unfortunately there were no bottles in it; however, it appears to be a king size carton and if the 10 on the handle is any indication most likely held 10oz versions of the candy stripe bottles, maybe. I've personally never heard of a 10oz Candy Stripe DRP, anyone else heard of one?

Morb ~

Cool find. I have been on the hunt for one of the bottles too. But as you know they don't come cheap. I had the image below on file and thought I'd share it. I am not sure which came first, the bottle or the cans - but it sure would be neat to have all three.

"King Size" sounds like a 12 oz. I have researched the candy-striped bottle in the past, but never came across any references for anything other than the 7 or 8 oz (whichever it was - I can't recall at the moment).

P.S. ~

I forgot to ask what kind of "fit" the various sizes have in the carton - tight - loose - just right - all the same?

Thanks.

Lastly ...

Here's a photo of one of the bottles for you. Just print it out six times, cut out, and then place them in the carton. Which will probably be a lot easier and cheaper than trying to locate six of the real deal. Lol [:)]

Ugh! Dr. Pepper hot.

I was a fan of all soft drink as a kid; colas, clears and fruits, root beers and Dr. Pepper...yum. As I grew older I shifted to just cola and DP nine time of ten. The good flavored drinks and the companies that made them sorta went the way of the dinosaur here in central Arkansas. I replaced bottled root beer with the superiority of fresh made at the drive ins like AW and Frostop. Cola and DP for me. I ultimately became what they called a colaholic...drinking a pair, or more, of two liter Cokes per day...but that's another story.

This story is about Dr. Pepper hot, with a slice of lemon. I remember the ad campaign on our local TV stations quite well and know that it must have been one of the fall/winter seasons of '67, '68 or '69...before I first married. I thought that I should try it and bought a six pack (don't recall what the carrier looked like). That evening I cracked a bottle open took a nice long sip of cold DP after having poured most of the bottle into a saucepan. I eagerly awaited its steaming with my cup and my slice of lemon. Ahh! It's ready and it smells wonderful, almost like the scents and boils folk do around Christmas time. Carefully dipped my cup full.
You need to know that as a child I had no concept of how or what Dr Pepper was made from. I just accepted, liked and enjoyed it for what it was, which was a taste totally different from all other brown drinks. However with that first sip the main flavoring ingredient rose to prominance. I simultaneously resisted the urge to vomit or spit out the vile liquid knowing at that moment I had been conned into drinking warm liquid prunes!
I recalled my grandad years before drinking that dark colored prune juice prior to breakfast. And even though I ate prunes, for some reason the nectar was, for me, vile and noxious. I poured the remainder into the sink after first trying to palm it off on my little brother. I guess he figured, rightly so, that if I didn't like it, neither would he. He wasn't a friend of Paw's prune juice either!
So, to this day forty some odd year later, I haven't had a Dr. Pepper.
My loss has been to Coca Cola's gain. And funny that the Coke plant in Little Rock has for a long time also bottled DP. We always heard that the Coke bottlers agreement forbade them from bottling other colas...DP not being one.

Ugh! Dr. Pepper hot!

I love the carton and have to agree. Dr. Pepper is great Hot or Cold. I have been searching for one of the striped bottles for a while. If any one has one they want to part with please let me know. Thanks, Don
