Thanks for all the comments guys. The blob is what is called a "steamer". They were pretty popular in Md and some of the surrounding states but weren't used anywhere else really. I'm sure most of you have read posts by Waskey. He's a big steamer collector and has posted about the origin of this style of bottle many times before. I think steamers where made in the 1880's up to the 1900's. Kind of a middle ground between hutches and blobs.

Joey, nice additions. That Eckert is odd, the blob on the top doesn't look at all correct on the bottle. As Connor and others said, it looks like it should have a Balt. loop seal due to the shape. The bottle is shaped like a typical steamer circulated 1895-1905 which would usually have a loop seal. Very odd it has a blob. Love the milk.

Very nice.
The 1/4 pint milks are known as "gills" & usually held cream. They were "officially" phased out in 1927, but were still produced for a couple more years.
